LEOSA: Carrying Concealed When Traveling

The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA), also known as HR 218, allows qualified retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms in all 50 states.

Who Qualifies?

  • Retired from a government agency after serving as a law enforcement officer for 10+ years
  • Not separated from service due to mental instability
  • Not prohibited from receiving a firearm under federal law
  • Meet state standards for active officers (annual qualification)

Required Documentation

You must carry:

  • Photographic ID issued by your former agency identifying you as a retired LEO
  • Annual firearms qualification certification

Important Restrictions

  • Does not permit carry on federal property, schools, or where state law prohibits
  • Must follow state laws regarding ammunition type and magazine capacity
  • Some states have specific requirements - research before traveling
