The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA), also known as HR 218, allows qualified retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms in all 50 states.
Who Qualifies?
- Retired from a government agency after serving as a law enforcement officer for 10+ years
- Not separated from service due to mental instability
- Not prohibited from receiving a firearm under federal law
- Meet state standards for active officers (annual qualification)
Required Documentation
You must carry:
- Photographic ID issued by your former agency identifying you as a retired LEO
- Annual firearms qualification certification
Important Restrictions
- Does not permit carry on federal property, schools, or where state law prohibits
- Must follow state laws regarding ammunition type and magazine capacity
- Some states have specific requirements - research before traveling
